A REPORT ON THE INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE “TRAUMA 2020: THE MULTI-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH” Korobushkin G.V.

Priorov National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics will have 100-year anniversary in 2021. On November 13-14, 2020, the international conference “TRAUMA 2020: the multi-disciplinary approach” took place, one of the events before anniversary of Priorov National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics. This year, the conference was in online format that allowed extending the scale of the event and increasing the amount of participants. More than 2,500 specialists from 28 countries participated in the conference.

The participants of the conference were greeted by Igor Nikolayevich Kagramanyan, MD, PhD, the first deputy Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation. In his speech, he supported the necessity of research of issues of polytrauma. He accentuated that treatment of severe injuries is the significant team work taken by trauma surgeons, surgeons, intensivists, neurosurgeons, emergency medicine physicians and nursing staff. Therefore, team spirit, support from colleagues and uniform understanding of medical care process are very important for treatment of severe and multiple injuries, especially now, when COVID-19 pandemia has significantly changed alignment of forces of physicians.

From this point of view, the International conference “TRAUMA 2020” has large-scale tasks. The wide spectrum of issues about development of the field was reviewed. The conference program was filled with important topics, discussion of which influenced on solving of wide range of tasks.

Specialists in treatment of injuries and their consequences exchanged their experience during the conference. During this event, domestic and leading world specialists presented the modern point of view of the problem of medical care realization for injuries.

The sessions of issues of treatment of pelvic injuries with special accent on complex injuries to posterior pelvis and sacrum were held. Some issues of geriatric injury were discussed in sections modeled by the chief off-duty geriatrician of Health Ministry of RF, Tkacheva Olga Nikolaevna, MD, PhD, professor, and by Rodionova Svetlana Semyonovna, MD, PhD, the leading expert in osteoporosis and bone tissue metabolic problems. The special attention was given to the issues of oncologic orthopedics in the section of Karpenko Vadim Yurievich, MD, PhD, professor (chief of bone pathology department at Priorov National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics). The modern possibilities, specialties and issues of medical transportation were discussed.

The important aim of the conference was discussion of clinical recommendations. This issue was efficiently realized in the chest injury section which was moderated by Zavrazhnov Anatoliy Anatolyevich, MD, PhD, professor. This discussion will help to solve the problem for the working group dealing with clinical recommendations “Chest Injury”. Moreover, the conference allowed making another step to creation of clinical recommendations for polytrauma treatment, as continuation of the work by Agadzhanyan Vagram Vaganovich, MD, PhD, professor, and to attract specialists for improvement of clinical recommendations.

In the pediatric injury section, which was moderated by Dorokhin Alexander Ivanovich, MD, PhD, and Karaseva Olga Vitalyevna, MD, PhD, some modern trends of treatment of pediatric skeletal injury and polytrauma were reviewed.

Once again, Polytrauma Course by professor Hans Cristoph Pape took place. The sections were moderated by the employee of traumatology clinics Roman Pfeier. Owing to this, constructive discussions and reviews of clinical cases took place with participation of leading specialists from European Society of Traumatology and Emergency Surgery (ESTES).

During debriefing of the international conference “TRAUMA 2020: the multi-disciplinary approach”, the participants noted some interesting topics for discussion, and high level of organization of the event.
